Great blog again Colin.

- Mike Ribeiro – 3 years @ $5.75M
- Derek Roy – 3 years @ $4.5M
- Clarke MacArthur – 2 years @ $2.75M
- Stephen Weiss – 4 years @ $5M
- Ian White – 2 years @ $3M
- David Clarkson – 5 years @ $5.75M
- Mason Raymond – 2 years @ $2.25M
- Andrew Ferrence – 1 year @ $3M
- Matt D’Agostini – 2 years @ $1.75M
- Tyler Bozak – 5 years @ $3.5M
- Chad Larose – 2 years @ $1.875

I'd take Ribero, and Ferrence at the prices you named. I'd drop Clarkson to 5yrs @ 5, or 3yrs at 5.75M. I'd pass on the rest.

As far as oshie goes, I think backlund would have to go back the other way. I don't really know what St. Louis needs.

Thanks, and although I agree on your point with Clarkson...that wont convince him to sign in Calgary. The Leafs, among others, might pay more.

Definitely agree but I'd rather skip him than sign that deal. I understand we have wiggle room and such but we need to get out of the habit of these big deals for players that are unlikely to live up to the contract all the way through.

Out of curiosity Colin, what do you think of Eks rumour about Iggy and Van. I posted an off the cuff response akin to "I will stop watching hockey." which was quickly removed by a mod or Ek himself. I guess my 4 yrs in Victoria really shaped my horrible opinion of Van. Anyway, as a reasonable guy with a pretty solid knowledge base (from what I've been reading), would this bug you? Also, if he signed with Buffalo would you feel that was a betrayal considering his claim to wanting to win (which I was all for!)?

I think the Leafs are going hard at Ference. I love the guy, seems like not only a great player but a fantastic teammate

*Honeslty* it wouldnt bother me as I try not to take these things TOO seriously...like I mean....as rough as some may feel it would be, he's not cheating on me with my ex or anything...if you know what I mean lol. Its a career for them, they need to do whats best for themselves and their families.

With that being said, it would certainly be weird and Im sure, given how much respect Iginla appears to have for Calgary that I dont think he would even sign with Van unless they "Ill make you an offer you cant refuse"

My biggest concern is having someone to play with Baertschi. If they Flames have to overpay to get someone for 3 years to help him along then so be it. A guy like Ribeiro , Weiss or Bozak would fit the bill. Again I would prefer if the contracts were kept to max 3 years as it will be nice to have some $$$ coming off the books when our prospects start to make the team. I would pay Riberio 6 mil and either of Weiss or Bozak up to 5 mil. Again, I know all of those numbers are overpayments, but it's supply and demand and the Flames DESPERATELY need help up the middle.

I also don't mind your Macarthur, Ferrence and Raymond picks. Any of those guys would fit in nicely.

The one thing I noticed about the past few guys the Flames have got (Galiardi, OBrien, Knight, Jones) is that they all seem really happy to be coming here. I know it's easy to say they could just be putting on a show, but it genuinely seems like they are pumped to be in Calgary and I think that is actually going to be a huge factor in the success of this team moving forward.

If there are Brian Burke sightings in CGY, relax, he's not there for Flames' job. His daughter just moved to CGY and he's there with her.

...althought hes really not a bad GM, most of what he did in Toronto is only now starting to come to fruition.

Bozak at 5M is just a bad idea...it really is...unless its short term, fine, but 3+ years is a bad idea. I would give him 2years 10M if he wanted just cause the Flames could afford to do that. Anything else would be crazy and could handcuff them down the road.

Mike Ribeiro would be my choice, but would he fit in with the team? Is there anyone even close to his age? I don't think they will go after him unless they plan on bringing in some other guys in the mid 30's.

You need a few guys of his ilk to surround your youth or they wont develop properly. Show them the ropes etc. Not the ideal guy for their center spot, but perfect while they work on bringing in more assets.

You want Riberio to show your youth how to be the biggest female genitalia on the ice towards everyone and anyone?

And now that's not a good thing. His antics are just plain pathetic. Cries after every freaking whistle.

Bozak for 2 years @5 or 3 years @5, now you are just picking cherries

Either way I don't think he will sign here. I think the would rather take a 7 year 30-32 million offer from somewhere else. Which is what he will probably get.

I have seen some improvements to his game in the last season or two actually...otherwise I would have agreed.

I actually agree with this as well. Seems to have matured quite a bit over the years. Either way, someone has to help Baertschi rack up some points.

2 years is the longest I would offer Bozak for anything around 5M. If he wanted 3-4-5 years it would come down to 3.5 ballpark. Just the way I see it...hes not a 5M+ dollar player even though someone might give it to em. He might really dissapoint when put in a 3rd line checking role without Kessel and Lupul.

Riberio needs to go to a vet team, plain and simple.

Wink because you are married?
